Tower Bridge Over the Sacramento River, California

No, not the one in London. This is an iPhone sketch shot from this morning’s foray down at the Tower Bridge over the Sacramento River, this from the southwestern river bank looking eastward. Once again, the sky's washed out, but I am hopeful for a few decent images. I shot with the Cambo WRC-400 and the remounted Rodenstock 23, Phase One Trichromatic back, and the Lee SW150 filter system.

Sacramento Tower Bridge

The Sacramento Tower Bridge glows at golden hour in a color that is not accidental — the bridge was repainted gold in 1987, and at this time of day the paint and the light become one continuous warm event. Built in 1935 as a vertical lift bascule bridge over the Sacramento River, the Tower Bridge was an engineering statement in an era that still believed infrastructure should be beautiful. The composition frames the bridge's twin towers against a sky still holding the last deep blue before full sunset, the bridge's reflection completing the arrangement in the river below. The "CF" prefix in the filename places this image in the same archive as the Namibia work — a camera carried across two continents.
