From the Queenstown waterfront at dusk, Lake Wakatipu stretches south toward the Remarkables range in a long, narrow corridor of still water and fading light — the kind of scene that has made this corner of the South Island one of the most photographed places on earth, and yet still insists on being photographed again. The range's reflection doubles its height in the lake, so that the image becomes a study in symmetry: sky above, mirror below, the water serving as the frame's true horizon. This panorama was assembled from multiple captures at dusk, preserving the exact quality of that bruised blue-violet that Queenstown evenings do better than almost anywhere. The town's lights were just beginning to appear when the shutter opened.
